This is how I felt yesterday!

If you happened to stop in anytime yesterday afternoon, you may have found that you were not able to find me at all. I think I wore out two separate tech dudes yesterday. I know that my phone and my computer were working overtime and needed a long while to cool down after yesterday’s fiasco.
I have been wanting to shorten the name of this blog for some time now, but became panicky everytime I read the directions for the process. While trying to log in to back up my database (a task I have never tried before), I found that it would not accept my password, so after several attempts I succumbed to asking the hosting company for assistance. In the conversation, I explained what I was trying to do after the back-up was complete and expressed great fear over the task at hand. The first tech dude, Nick (who has a great sense of humor), was kind enough to walk me through the process….with the phone call being well over an hour long. He made it seem so-o-o-O-O easy.
Voila! The page had been moved! I was embarrassed that I-#1 had been so afraid to begin with..and #2 that I had fervently expressed my concerns that you could not “just move” the files without Wordpress being downloaded already.
Everything looked wonderful.–I was extremely pleased with the outcome…until…..hmmmm…..an hour later when I was changing everything with Entrecard. I opened my page in Internet Explorer, rather than Firefox….and OH…..My……Everlovin’…..GOSH! The formating was gone….I couldn’t log in…..I couldn’t read the comments……sidebars were all over the place.
Sweat became raindrops off my brow. My stomach felt as though I had eaten a huge ball of clay. Now What????
I tried to restore to the old address, but no luck….I tried to open from another control panel….again…not happenin’. So off to the new tech dude…Josh. Josh was so polite…and kept apologizing for putting me on hold. It was very difficult to explain what Nick and I had previously done and poor Josh was dealing with a tech-illiterate dummie….ME. I won’t bore you with full details, but I will say that I was on the phone for almost two hours….AND…we found out that Wordpress needed to be uploaded first. At 6:40 last night, we were back in business! Poor Josh…I could tell by his voice that he was getting worn down….but never once did he make me feel stupid…and he was a picture of perfect politeness til the very end. Thank you Josh!
I need to send thanks to my friend, Anita, at Prairie Dreams for her calming online banter through the second tech call yesterday. With sheer panic in my heart, I instant messaged her with….”can I throw an online tantrum?” ….expressing my concern that I may had lost everything. Anita is such a good friend and really helped me keep my panic to a minimum all the times Josh placed me on hold. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Anita!

I was sweating bullets as I read the post! Whoa! I’m so glad you got things put back together. Believe me when I say that I KNOW how you feel. Wordpress has given me more gray hairs…

I hate to tell you this, but… when I submitted a comment, a goofy message came up. The comment did go through when I backspaced to check.
This is what it says:
<meta http-equiv=”Content-Type” content=”text/html; charset=
It was just that line, on a blank screen. Looks like some missing tags in your theme.

Thanks for letting me know this. Now, I have no idea what to do….other than pay someone to help. Unfortunately my tech support won’t help on this kind of problem.

Hmmm…. I didn’t get the error message when I posted without logging in as an admin.
If anyone has similar problems, I hope they will report back in the comments.

That is why I avoided Wordpress… of course it took 1 1/2 years (part-time) of my life, but now I have my own, shiny blog/Web site, and if anything goes wrong, I have all the source code. Oh… Wordpress does that too… well, anyway…
Seriously, it is good to have created something so it behaves EXACTLY as you wish, and can be totally customized to the way you want it to be, and can be fixed easily. On the other hand, the price you pay is time and/or money.
Glad you are back up… I will let you know if I get any error when saving this comment. Here goes (holding nose and shutting eyes)…

Hmm, now in Internet Explorer… if you don’t hear anything else from me, then it worked also, just as Firefox did… Here goes…

Looks like everything worked out… glad they were able to fix everything!
