WordPress Theme Woes

September 19th, 2009

Since I have been away for so long, I wouldn’t expect that many readers are still around. I thought that after my children were sent off to college that things would calm down enough for me to re-establish myself in blogdomhood….NOT! I have checked in here a few times, but when I noticed that there were some technical issues with my sidebar I just could not devote the time to figuring out a solution. This is something that the blog did itself…without my help….because it was fine one day….several days as a matter of fact…since the last post and everything was fine. Then one day I sauntered in here and found I had no sidebar. What is it called when the bar is no longer at the side, but at the bottom?

As much as I hate having to give up my personalized header, I guess I am going to search for yet another WordPress theme. I know my theme was not overly professional, but it was MINE…unlike anyone elses. So with deep regrets of not having a better technology ability, I must forge forward with someone else’s theme. Don’t know how long it will take me to find the right one…but a-huntin’ I shall go…..

Comment Difficulties

April 15th, 2009

Thanks to Mrs. M over at Freaky Frugalite for letting me know that there is a problem with leaving comments on my posts. I noticed this a couple of times when I was trying to leave comments on others’ blogs, but was unaware of the same difficulty here at my place.

Being totally and completely technologically “dumb”, I do not know where to begin to find out where the difficulty hides. If anyone has any suggestions, I would certainly be very happy to hear them. In the meantime, I will continue searching for an answer.

CRAZINESS

October 2nd, 2008

 ♥

This is how I felt yesterday!

If you happened to stop in anytime yesterday afternoon, you may have found that you were not able to find me at all. I think I wore out two separate tech dudes yesterday. I know that my phone and my computer were working overtime and needed a long while to cool down after yesterday’s fiasco.

I have been wanting to shorten the name of this blog for some time now, but became panicky everytime I read the directions for the process. While trying to log in to back up my database (a task I have never tried before), I found that it would not accept my password, so after several attempts I succumbed to asking the hosting company for assistance. In the conversation, I explained what I was trying to do after the back-up was complete and expressed great fear over the task at hand. The first tech dude, Nick (who has a great sense of humor),  was kind enough to walk me through the process….with the phone call being well over an hour long. He made it seem so-o-o-O-O easy.

Voila! The page had been moved! I was embarrassed that I-#1 had been so afraid to begin with..and #2 that I had fervently expressed my concerns that you could not “just move” the files without Wordpress being downloaded already.

Everything looked wonderful.–I was extremely pleased with the outcome…until…..hmmmm…..an hour later when I was changing everything with Entrecard. I opened my page in Internet Explorer, rather than Firefox….and OH…..My……Everlovin’…..GOSH! The formating was gone….I couldn’t log in…..I couldn’t read the comments……sidebars were all over the place.

Sweat became raindrops off my brow. My stomach felt as though I had eaten a huge ball of clay. Now What????

I tried to restore to the old address, but no luck….I tried to open from another control panel….again…not happenin’. So off to the new tech dude…Josh. Josh was so polite…and kept apologizing for putting me on hold. It was very difficult to explain what Nick and I had previously done and poor Josh was dealing with a tech-illiterate dummie….ME.  I won’t bore you with full details, but I will say that I was on the phone for almost two hours….AND…we found out that Wordpress needed to be uploaded first. At 6:40 last night, we were back in business! Poor Josh…I could tell by his voice that he was getting worn down….but never once did he make me feel stupid…and he was a picture of perfect politeness til the very end. Thank you Josh!

I need to send thanks to my friend, Anita, at Prairie Dreams for her calming online banter through the second tech call yesterday. With sheer panic in my heart, I instant messaged her with….”can I throw an online tantrum?” ….expressing my concern that I may had lost everything.  Anita is such a good friend and really helped me keep my panic to a minimum all the times Josh placed me on hold. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Anita!
